We'll have a keg of home brew and kombucha, some blankets on the grass and an intimate, bluesy show by the Rainbow Girls - three of my best friends from Bodega Bay, CA, stopping through on their south coast house concert tour. We'll be taking donations and all donations will BENEFIT Houston Stands with Standing Rock. Much thanks to KPFT for hosting us in their awesome backyard! Bring friendly folks, children are welcome :)

RAWtools, Inc. gets its scriptural motivation from Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3. We want to be comprehensive in our efforts to move our communities away from gun violence and violence as a whole. Its not enough to just make a lot of tools from guns. We need to help teach each other new ways to solve our problems through relationship, dialogue, and alternative means of justice, i.e. Restorative Justice practices and victim-offender dialogue.
What can one person do about climate change, torture, racism, xenophobia, gun violence, fracking, Congressional ineptitude, ignorance, war and greed? Write funny songs, says Roy Zimmerman, master satirist, songwriter, and performer.
HPJC is bringing Roy Zimmerman back to Houston in a benefit to raise funds for Peace Camp Houston. In 14 albums over 20 years, Roy has brought the sting of satire and parody to the struggle for peace and social justice.
He makes fun of right wing politicians, hypocrites, war profiteers, large multinational corporations, religious bigots, and hate-mongers, while entertaining you with stories and music.
Melissa Cardoza, an afro-indigenous feminist leader from Honduras, is coming to Houston on May 22, together with Honduran singer-songwriter Karla Lara, as part of a tour of the U.S. promoting the new bilingual Spanish-English edition of Melissa's book, 13 colores de la resistencia hondureña / 13 Colors of the Honduran Resistance.
As part of our continued efforts to create platforms for peace, self-expression, and creativity, we our hosting our first "Share Your Peace" poetry/prose recitation. One of the most important tools for building a culture of peace, is self expression. Therefore, we invite all poets, writers, resisters, lovers, painters, and creatives of every kind to come and share your peace. Tell us how you live peace. Show us how you live justice. Guide us through your art journey and let's build a creative bond together.
Concert, Ensemble Pi
For this interdisciplinary performance, Ensemble Pi presents music, text, and theater works that focus on the rise of mass incarceration, the racial disparities it reveals, and the emotional toll it takes on inmates and their families. The concert opens with Rzewski’s minimalist masterpiece, Coming Together, composed in the wake of the 1971 prison riots in upstate New York and powerfully expressing the frustration of life behind bars and anger about injustice.
Enjoy a concert by the band Traveler & a special guest while sipping coffee/beer/wine and nibbling tasty food at Bohemeo’s, 708 Telephone Rd. The concert benefits the new Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston (IENoH), the Houston chapter of Texas Interfaith Power & Light, a division of the Texas Interfaith Center for Public Policy. The IENoH aims to educate and empower the faith community in Houston to advocate and act as stewards of the environment. A suggested donation of $20 will be accepted at the door. The 12th annual Houston Via Colori® Street Painting Festival is one of the city’s signature art and music festivals. More than 200 local and international artists converge on the streets of downtown Houston to create live street paintings right before your eyes. Attendees can enjoy live music performed by local bands and entertainers on three stages, family-friendly activities, and delicious local food and beverages. A private VIP Lounge features exclusive themed mini-events throughout the weekend.
On Belonging is a performance by writer/artist Sehba Sarwar, whose work contends with issues of displacement and identity. Born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan, Sarwar grounds her work in her home city even as she moves between Houston, Los Angeles, and Karachi. Sarwar will perform new writings and launch a site-specific installation containing community responses to the question of belonging. The performance/installation will be held by the oak tree near the Cy Twombly Gallery on the Menil Collection campus. Sehba's performance tackles critical issues at a time when walls are being raised and border crossings are being restricted.

Backspace is a rock-n-roll covered band started in 2007, a group of like-minded (and like-hearted) business professionals who want to benefit the Houston community through their music. Their annual show is a themed “one-time-only” performance for charity. The theme for the 2018 show is “Backspace Rocks the A, B, C’s” wherein Backspace will play a 26-song set by 26 bands representing every letter of the alphabet. The concert will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, at White Oak Music Hall. Come support Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and other Houston charities that are serving our youngest in need, at a time when we need it the most.
Annie Patterson & Peter Blood, the creators of the songbooks Rise Up Singing and Rise Again, are coming to Houston!
They will be teaching and leading songs from their new songbook Rise Again in a singalong concert open to all. This is a great opportunity to meet the couple who "wrote the book" (the best-selling group singing collection Rise Up Singing) as well as building community and celebrating the work being done to build resilience and resistance in these challenging times.

Houston in Concert Against Hate: Many Voices, One City presents the world-renowned
Houston Symphony Orchestra and moving stories of ADL’s work to combat hate and promote
respect. This year, we celebrate the global diversity of the City of Houston, acknowledge
the struggles of its multicultural communities, and call on all of our supporters to join their
voices in the fight against hate.
Selina Thompson is a UK based artist, performer, and writer. Her practice is primarily intimate, political, and participatory, with a strong strand of public engagement that then leads to joyous, highly visual work that seeks to connect to those often marginalized by the arts.
The Race Cards installation is a room containing 1,000 questions about race, written by Selina Thompson. In this constantly evolving installation and archive, Thompson invites participants to supply their own answers to the many facets of race and racism in modern society by answering one of the questions. Up to four people may access the installation at once, and are invited to spend some time experiencing it at their own pace.
On April 14 at 3pm, Selina Thompson will ask all 1,000 questions in a durational performance in MATCH Box 1. Audience members may come and go throughout the performance, arriving anytime between 3pm and 7pm. While at the MATCH, audiences are encouraged to interact with the Race Cards gallery installation.
