Houston is known as the global “energy capital of the world,” which also makes it an epicenter for environmental justice issues. Organizations like Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services (t.e.j.a.s.) and historic scholar Dr. Robert Bullard are leading advocates for equal access to a clean and healthy environment regardless of race and income status. Some of our member organizations working on environmental and climate change issues include Transition Houston and Sierra Club Houston Regional Group.
HPJC supports local environmental and environmental justice projects through volunteering, event sponsorship and small grants to activists. In 2014, we co-sponsored an Environmental Justice Encuentro at Texas Southern University and a Waste and Environmental Justice Summit. This year’s Chair for our EJ Workgroup is Joe Marcincowski. You can get in touch by filling out the Volunteer Form here.
There is never a shortage of ways to fight climate change in Houston, so please get involved!
