How you can help

The project

Purpose: End U.S. military occupation of Iraq immediately. Bring the troops home now. Many of HPJC’s member groups are working individually and together toward these ends: Dominican Sisters, Fellowship of Reconciliation, First Unitarian Universalist Church’s Community Involvement Committee, Houston Mennonite Church, Houston Non-Violent Action/War Resisters, Live Oak Friends Meeting, Mamas Brigade, Military Families Speak Out, Pax Christi, Peace Action, Progressive Action Alliance, Veterans for Peace, and Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

Activities

Public demonstrations, such as marches, silent witnesses, memorial services for the dead, and freeway blogging. Pressuring elected officials to vote against the war. Periodic appearances before Houston City Council to explain the local costs. The Truth in Recruiting project is a related approach to ending this war and future U.S. "wars of choice."

How you can help

Look for notices of public events in the HPJC twice monthly calendar (if you aren’t a subscriber, send a request to hpjc-calendar-owner@yahoogroups.com) and take part. Keep contacting our two U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative (only three Houston-area representatives are solidly against the war: Al Green, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Ron Paul. For contact information, pull down the Tools for Activists menu on this website.
