Walk 5K for Peace!

The 2012 Gandhi Peace Walk is now open for on-line registration. Please register at the website. Held under the auspices of the Mahatma Gandhi Library, 2012 will mark the 7th consecutive year of the annual Gandhi Peace Walk in Houston!

The walk is set for Sunday, Oct 7, at 4:45 PM from the Gandhi statue at the Rose Garden in the Hermann Park. The walk will be inside Hermann Park, a route of about 5K, ending at the Miller Outdoor Theater. The arrival of the walkers will signal the start of the "1000 Lights for Peace", an international cultural program, now a Houston tradition. Please plan on attending the program after the walk as well; the program will conclude with the spectacular lighting of over a 1000 candles.

Please register for the walk no later than Sep 23 to allow time to plan for T-shirts, water, security detail, etc. Please specify your T-shirt size when registering. There is a request for a $20 donation per adult and $10 per student, however any amount is welcome. Donations are optional, but your participation is more important. If you will be donating, you may use the “Google Checkout” on-line when you register, or, please bring a check made out to "Mahatma Gandhi Library" or bring cash on Oct 7.

The Grand Marshal for the 2012 walk will be the eminent Houston cardiologist Dr. Randeep Suneja.

On walk day, free parking will be available at Rose Garden lot, the Houston Zoo lot and along the streets where allowed. There is also a pay-parking garage adjacent to the Museum of Natural Science. Carpooling is always encouraged. The check-in desk will open at 3:30 PM. Please plan on arriving at the Gandhi statue between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM to check in, collect your T-shirt, water and to get set for the walk. Final walk instructions will be emailed by Oct 2.
