Danny Glover and the Houston Community Stand Up for Economic Justice

Date:
Sunday, July 1, 2012 - 1:30pm - 3:30pm

Danny GloverYou’re Invited… Meet with Danny Glover

Join actor Danny Glover and community members from across Houston to stand up for economic justice.
Danny Glover has participated in many social justice causes over the years, including as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and as an anti-racism activist. Now he’s coming to Houston to support the Houston Needs a Raise Campaign and low-wage workers across the city.

In Houston, 20% of workers are paid less than $10 per hour – condemning many families to poverty. Despite this, last year CEOs of Fortune 500 companies across Houston gave themselves raises of almost 50% over what they made in 2010.

SEIU Local 1

If we want to reverse the tide of increasing childhood poverty in Houston and across Texas, we have to start with the root cause: low-wage jobs.  Houston has the highest-growing millionaire population in the country, and it’s time for some of that prosperity to go back to the communities that made Houston the great city that it is.

Join us as we call on Houston’s most profitable corporations to do right by Houston workers, and reverse the “race to the bottom” that traps families in poverty.
