It’s time we confront the growing gap between the wealthiest 1% and the rest of us head on. Houston is booming. It’s been named the nation’s “#1 Millionaire City” for annual growth in millionaires; yet 1 in 5 people working in Houston make less than $10 an hour, and Texas is tied with Mississippi for the highest proportion of minimum wage jobs in the nation.

Meanwhile, the Fortune 500 Companies headquartered in Houston saw their profits increase almost 30%  from the previous 2010 and CEOs of these companies saw their compensation rise almost 50% in the same time period. It would take a Houston Janitor more than 2,500 years to earn just what JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon took home last year, and most earn less in a year than he earns in an hour.

Now we are taking on the 1% to fight for the good jobs we need to rebuild the middle class, grow our economy, and make the American Dream real again for all of us.

Houston needs a raise.  Together, we can make “Millionaire City” a place where we ALL prosper.
