Houston Peace and Justice Center's 6th Annual Awards Dinner

Houston peace and justice center

Invites you to join in honoring

Center for Constitutional Rights

From the height of the Civil Rights movement to the depths of Bush's war on the U.S. Constitution and fundamental human decency, the cases CCR has litigated have made legal history and emboldened progressive change. Founded by legendary movement attorneys Arthur Kinoy, William Kunstler, Ben Smith, and Morton Stavis, its unique mission has been to use the law to support, publicize, and advance struggles for human rights and social and economic justice.

Accepting the award will be Katherine Gallagher, member of the team suing Blackwater on behalf of the families of two Iraqi men its mercenaries murdered. Prior to joining CCR, from 2001-2006 Gallagher worked at the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. She also worked as a legal advisor for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Kosovo, with the UN's International Independent Investigating Commission in Lebanon, and with the Special Court for Sierra Leone in Freetown. During the negotiations to establish the International Criminal Court, she worked as a member of the Women’s Caucus for Gender Justice to ensure that gender-based violence and discrimination would be adequately addressed.

For a complete list of CCR's current and past cases, including those to close Guantánamo and hold Caterpillar, Inc. responsible for the death of Rachel Corrie in the Occupied Territories, visit http://ccrjustice.org.
